Man jumps across damaged condo skybridge during earthquake to find wife and child

A Korean man in Bangkok was seen jumping across a high-rise condominium skybridge that was about to break to find his wife and child, during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on Mar. 28.

Jumped across breaking skybridge during tremors

Thai resident Kwon Young Jun was exercising at a 52nd floor gymnasium at the Park Origin Thonglor, a high-rise condominium when the tremors struck, his wife, an online personality and entrepreneur named Bowyuri, said in a Mar. 29 video.

Kwon, who was not in the same building as his family, was recorded running and jumping across a sky bridge that connected to a neighbouring building in the condominium, which was on the verge of breaking apart completely.

Pictures shared to social media showed the extent of damage done to the bridge by the tremors.

Kwon subsequently found that his wife and child were not in their flat, but had evacuated during the tremors.

He then made it down safely to find them waiting outside the building.

‘I was just worried about my child’

“At the time, I was just worried about my child, I had to go and take care of my wife and child,” Kwon told Thairath TV.

When he realised the bridge was breaking apart, Kwon said he instinctively decided to jump across it, as the concrete structure had not completely separated yet.

After he landed, he heard a loud bang but kept running.

Pictures from Bowyuri’s Facebook page showed that Kwon suffered abrasions on both his arms.

He was also sore from the experience, but was otherwise fine.

Bowyuri, a Thai beauty and skincare products entrepreneur, said she was shocked when she first saw the clip of her husband’s jump.

In the caption of another video, she said she appreciated his brave gesture.

“Oppa (My husband) always thinks about his family first no matter what he does, to the point where he forgets that crossing over to another building is very dangerous,” Bowyuri said.

“I did not choose the wrong person.”
