'Special boy': Wife of late hockey star Johnny Gaudreau gives birth to third child

In a post on Instagram, she shared the news along with photos of the new baby alongside his two older siblings

Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of the late hockey star Johnny Gaudreau, has given birth to their third child.

In a post on Instagram, she shared the news along with photos of the new baby alongside his two older siblings. In the caption, addressed to her followers, she wrote: “I had our third baby.” She added the date of birth as April 1, 2025, which is seven months after the hockey player was fatally hit by a car while biking alongside his brother in New Jersey.

The baby boy was named Carter Michael Gaudreau, sharing the same middle name as his late father. Meredith said that Carter weighed and measured the “exact same as his daddy,” at eight pounds and three ounces and 20.5 inches.

“He looks exactly like his daddy too,” she wrote. “I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.”

The driver who allegedly killed Gaudreau and his brother Matthew is currently in custody and is awaiting trial.

Sean Higgins’ blood alcohol content was over the legal limit when he fatally struck the brothers in August 2024, who were in town to celebrate their sister’s wedding.

Johnny Gaudreau was a 31-year-old forward for the NHL’s Columbus Bluejackets and previously the Calgary Flames, while Matthew was a 29-year-old former minor pro hockey player turned coach.
