Seeing how cruel some people can be to animals is heartbreaking. We have seen too many stories of pets being thrown away like trash.
This was the case of a poor kitten placed in a paper bag and abandoned in a dumpster. Luckily, this cat is now safe thanks to kind rescuers.
According to a Facebook post from Angels of Assisi, an animal shelter in Roanoke, Virginia, a worker at a local hospital heard a disturbing noise from a dumpster and called police to investigate.
An officer from the Carilion Police Department arrived and looked inside the dumpster. He found the noise source – and it was a heartbreaking sight.
A six-week-old kitten was put in a supermarket paper bag and left in the dumpster.
It’s hard to imagine what kind of cruel person would leave a baby kitten dead like that, but it’s a miracle she was found in time.

Photos show the officer rescuing the kitten and taking it to his police car. The kitten, now named Toby, was taken to the Carilion Clinic for much-needed veterinary treatment and then placed in the care of Angels of Assisi.
The shelter then placed him in a foster home where he will receive “lots of care” until he is old enough to be adopted.

It’s a heartbreaking story with a happy ending. Many commenters thanked the officer and the shelter for saving this kitten’s life.
“Only a monster would do that to a baby,” one commenter wrote on Facebook. “Thank you everyone for saving the baby.”
“I can’t even imagine how anyone could do that,” another wrote. “I’m so grateful this baby was saved and I hope they catch whoever did this.”
We’re so glad that Toby is safe! Thank you to everyone who helped save him!
